G-Dragon Shows Patriotism Amid Japanese Critics
K-Pop superstar G-Dragon showed off his unrelenting patriotism once more as he commemorated South Korea's Independence Declaration Day amid the anger of Japanese netizens. The Big Bang leader didn't skip this year as his nation celebrated the March 1st Movement also known as the Three-One Movement or the Manse Demonstrations. This historic event looks back on the Korean resistance against the Japanese occupation in 1919.
G-Dragon took to Instagram to post a photo of a silhouette of what appeared to be a lay citizen waving a flag. G-Dragon displayed the Korean national flag, known as the Taegukgi, at times as part of his fashion statement at concerts. He once wore a whimsical-looking pink jacket that bears the Taegukgi at the upper back during a concert in 2012. It was last year that many Japanese fans criticized the "Crooked" singer when he took to social media to celebrate the National Liberation Day of Korea which falls every August 15. According to allkpop, the enraged Japanese netizens that took offense at G-Dragon's patriotic expression criticized him for being inconsiderate and for showing that his "professionalism is low." They thought that G-Dragon should have done better considering his wide-ranging influence. G-Dragon remains secured as the most followed K-pop idol on Instagram after hitting 13 million followers Thursday. His followers grew to 1 million in just two months.
Many fans lauded G-Dragon for not backing down with his patriotic stance despite criticisms. They thought that his actions are "so cool" and "needs to be complimented" instead. At least one netizen criticized the Japanese fans for being "ridiculous." "Why are they criticizing and telling him to delete it? But G-Dragon ignores them all and always uploads it hahaha," allkpop quoted the netizen as saying.
