"Timeless" ended its first season run with several story twists and a cliffhanger. Recently, the NBC series' showrunners shared their thoughts about a potential Season 2 and the storyline that they plan to explore in upcoming episodes.

The "Timeless" finale that aired on Feb. 20, Monday, crossed out several plot points in the NBC series and ended with Rittenhouse in shambles. Titled "The Red Scare," the said episode also featured interesting developments that can serve as a jumping board for the show's potential new season.

Given the revelation of Lucy's (Abigail Spencer) true parentage where both her parents are Rittenhouse members, the said discovery will be one of the plotlines in the potential "Timeless" Season 2 run. Showrunners Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan told TVLine that the reason behind Carol's (Susanna Thompson) secrecy will be one of the questions that they plan to answer should the series be renewed.

Kripke even hinted on how Rittenhouse tends to lay down meticulous plans for everything and that included Lucy's present day role as a historian, as well as gaining access to time-travel. It seems that Lucy's mother has been conditioning the said protagonist to follow what appears to be well laid-out plans that include regaining control of the mothership to benefit Rittenhouse in the long run.

Apart from Lucy and Carol's potential arc, the two "Timeless" showrunners also teased about Jiya's (Claudia Doumit) burgeoning powers. As a side-effect of her last ride on the time ship, the said character's abilities to see both past and present events will also be explored in the NBC series' yet-to-be-renewed season.

Meanwhile, Kripke and Ryan mentioned in an interview with Deadline that they are already preparing their "Timeless" Season 2 pitch for NBC. With plans to present the show's new storyline to NBC bosses in April, the two showrunners are hopeful and optimistic that the time-traveling series will be picked up for a new season.

"Timeless" Season 1 premiered on NBC in early October 2016. However, the decision for the show's potential Season 2 renewal is expected to be released in the second quarter of the year.
