‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13: Eliza Gains Ally In Arizona? Marika Dominczyk Talks Minnick’s Relationship, Grey Sloan Battle
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 introduced some new personalities and plot lines that changed the dynamics at Grey Sloan hospital. Given Eliza's (Marika Dominczyk) addition to the long-running ABC medical series that angered many of the show's beloved characters, the new residency director might find a new friend in Arizona (Jessica Capshaw).
Grey Sloan hospital became a tense working environment in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 following Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) various administrative decisions that pushed Webber (James Pickens Jr.) aside as the residency chief and removed Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) from her position. At the center of all the changes is Eliza whose presence resulted in an internal power struggle among surgeons.
Upcoming "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 episodes will continue to feature the new residency director's professional challenges. Despite her colleagues' animosity towards her, Eliza will soon earn the trust of some doctors including Arizona.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dominczyk identified Arizona as one of the characters who might slowly show their support for Eliza. Apart from the said doctor, other characters who see the positive changes of her new residency program will also become some of Eliza's friends and supporters.
The actress also commented on Eliza's romantic feelings for Arizona and how her character remains hopeful that she will be able to form a relationship with the said doctor. However, the way that Eliza tend to separate what happens at work and in personal life will confuse and frustrate other characters.
Meanwhile, Dominczyk also told TVLine that she was apprehensive at how her character in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 has a potential love line with Arizona. Given the number of fans who remained loyal to the Arizona and Callie (Sara Ramirez) couple, dubbed "Calzona," some viewers may not be receptive to Eliza showing a romantic interest in the now single Arizona.
Dominczyk added, "I really appreciate [the Calzona fans'] passion. The show's been on the air for 13 years and has an incredible fan base. And I'm so happy to be a part of it, even if it's on the [negative] receiving end."
At this point, it is still unclear if the Eliza and Arizona pairing will turn into a lasting relationship between the two doctors. Fans can learn more about the said characters' arc in upcoming episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 that airs every Thursday on ABC.
