The Cleveland Cavaliers select Derrick Williams, the 2nd overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2011. The Cavs just signed Williams to a 10-day contract over the 4 point guard who tried out last week.

The Cavaliers took the advantage to signing the free agent Derrick Williams after the Miami Heat waived him out earlier this week. Derrick Williams is expected to help the Cavaliers in the rebounding department as well as filling up a few minutes once LeBron sits on the bench the Fox8 reported.

According to the Yahoo! Sports, signing Derrick Williams on 10-day contract could provide them a major impact. It could be negative or positive, depending on how the Cavs will utilize his limited talent.

Derrick Williams was acquired by the Cavaliers primarily to help them in the painted area job. Rebounding should be the main factor why Williams was acquired since the team is now having a shortage of frontcourt players.

The Cavaliers are known to have some troubles in their lineup over the past few weeks, resulting for the superstar LeBron James to demand a new backup point guard for Kyrie Irving. As a surprise, the Cavs decided to recruit a big man with the likes of Derrick Williams as they said that rebound is more important to them as of the moment.

What's more intriguing is the fact that Derrick Williams is known to be a guy with no particular position. Known to be a bust in his draft class in 2011, Williams struggles to find his strength, instead, he was ranked as one of the worst defenders in the NBA.

Derrick Williams is a below-average type of player. With no specific specialty, Williams has already found himself playing with 5 teams, including the current Cavaliers over the past 6 years.

It may be a good move for the Cavaliers since they are the ones who took the risk of signing Williams. Since it will only last for just 10-days, several basketball analysts said that the Cavs might have another player in the next few days.
