Is Hyoyeon Copying Ariana Grande?

Some netizens think that Hyoyeon is copying Ariana Grande. They even pointed out some facts that seem to prove their allegations.

The similarities in both artists style are visible on Ariana's 'Side to Side' MV which was released on August 29 and Hyoyeon's 'Mystery' MV.

To prove their allegations on Hyoyeon supposedly copying Ariana Grande, some netizens pointed out some specific facts. Like for instance, the American artist is popular for her half-up ponytail. In her 'Side to Side' MV, Ariana pulled her ponytail through a hole in the baseball cap she's wearing. Hyoyeon was sporting the very same hairstyle in her 'Mystery' MV.

Some netizens also pointed out that Hyoyeon doesn't only copy the American singer's hairstyle but her outfit in general, as well. Like for example, on Ariana's '2016 MTV Video Music Awards' live performance, she was wearing a 2-piece white outfit with a pink sheer, long coat over it. In Hyoyeon's 'Mystery' MV, the idol was seen wearing an almost identical outfit except for the color. The sheer, long coat she put over her 2-piece outfit is white and not pink like Ariana's. But the rest of the outfit is almost identical.

Girls' Generations is also accused in the past of copying some of their outfits from international celebrities. They, however, dismissed the allegations by telling the fans that those are just 'hommages'. But then fans are disappointed that the 'copying' incidents seem to occur over and over again. They said doing so is disgraceful and even annoying to the fans.

Some fans say they can let the similar hairstyle slide but the almost identical outfit is simply plagiarism. They were simply disappointed in the copying incident.

Some of the fans, though, defended the idol. Instead of blaming Hyoyeon, they are putting the blame on her stylist. They think her stylist should focus on giving Hyoyeon a trademark look rather than copying from international artists.
