SK’s Culture Ministry To Hold Content Fair This Weekend

A government-run content fair will open this weekend to showcase the country's cultural products and technological convergence.

The two-day event was called "Content, More than Content," is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It will showcase different content used in animation, entertainment, games, and virtual reality programs. There are also participatory events for the visitors. The exhibition will be held at the D Hall of the Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX) in Seoul.

On Saturday, October 15th, the content fair opens with a K-pop concert featuring popular idol groups like NCT, SHINee, and Crayon Pop at the plaza near the East Gate of COEX. The organizers hope that the performances will attract more foreign tourists in the country including those have participated in the "Korea Sale FESTA," which is a yearly sales campaign to boost the country's tourism and cultural exchange. Moreover, the concert will be live broadcast at the Mnet channel.

According to the ministry, the purpose of the event is to show the growth and development of South Korea's content industry and relevant technologies. It also hopes to emphasize their potential in the content industry. The ministry also plans to boost up the investments in the country with its virtual reality and artificial intelligence sectors that reached a high growth potential. An estimated budget of 640 billion won is earmarked for boosting the industry by next year.

"I hope Korean content can create synergy by combining different cultural factors together. The government plans to support aggressively the relevant industries to build a 'content ecosystem,'" said Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Cho Yoon-sun.

Furthermore, the content fair also aims to promote the Korean culture especially for tourists who have great interest in South Korea. The event is on Saturday and Sunday, October 15 -16.
