'Descendants of the Sun,' 'W' and 'Doctors' Couples to Compete in 2016 APAN Star Awards

The famous ‘Descendants of the Sun’ couple, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, is having another Song-Song couple moment to the delight of their fans.

The 2016 APAN Star Awards put the love teams of "Descendants of the Sun," "W" and "Doctors" on battle ground as they will compete for the "Best Couple Award."

Fan votes, to be accepted and summated until Sept. 30, will determine the winners in every category.

Two couples from "Descendants of the Sun" Song Joong-ki and Song Hye Kyo and Jin Goo and Kim Jo-won will be rivals in one category. Kim Rae Win and Park Shin-hye from "Doctors," Eric and Seo Hyun-jin from "Oh Hae-young Again," and Lee Jong-suk and Han Hyo-joo from "W Two Worlds" complete the list of contenders for Best Couple category.

Meanwhile, rumors involving the nominated couple Song-Song is still under fire. The lead stars of "Descendants of the Sun" are allegedly dating. Sources spilled that Song Joong Ki asked partner to grace the red carpet with his for his upcoming movie "Battleship Island." Rumors also claimed that the actor planned wedding proposal to the actress on his birthday. However, no confirmation from the Korean drama idols has been released yet.

Itech Post reported that no winners under the said category were declared in 2014 and 2015. Lee Jong Suk and Lee Bo Young from "I Can Hear Your Voice" and Seo In Guk and Jung Eun Ji from "Reply 1997" bagged the award in 2013 and 2012. respectively.

The Asia Pacific Actors Network (APAN) is regarded as the most prestigious award giving body for Korean Dramas. The Hallyu event will also stage the performance of EXO, BTS, SHINee, EXID, Sistar, Girls' Generation, Red Velvet, Apink and Infinite.

The awarding event is part of the 11-day 2016 DMC Festival to be held in Oct.2 at the Sangam MBC Broadcasting Station. The ceremony that showcases Asian pop culture and Korean drama will be hosted by Ha Nui Lee and Dong Yup Shin.

Soompi reported that the award giving body founded in 2012 will review 63 dramas broadcasted between Sept. 2015 and Sept. this year. Artists from countries including Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Turkey, Philippines and other Asian regions are also in the lists of nominees.
