Koreans Boycott SNOW Beauty App Due To Offensive Advertisements Toward Women

Many South Koreans boycott the SNOW beauty app because of using repulsive language and offensive advertisements toward teenage women who are their biggest target users.

Earlier this year, many South Koreans were already assertive that the SNOW, which is South Korea's most popular photo filter application, had conducted claims about "female loathing" or "female revulsion" through their offensive commercials and advertisements.

SNOW released a commercial video in the first half of the year that became viral and frowned lots of netizens. The company's second commercial did not fall too short because the netizens already have low expectations from the app.

In SNOW's first commercial, two young male high school students are running along the school's hallway after seeing a photo of a gorgeous girl, their school mate, who took a photo using the SNOW app. The two boys say compliments about the girl's skin saying "Her skin is no joke" and "Her skin is so flawless." The two boys spotted the girl and they showed disappointments by the girl's less favorable appearance and saying foul words such as "Aw, f**k" while throwing a tantrum and spitting the juice that they are drinking. One of the boys slaps the girl due to his anger as he felt cheated for making them believe that the girl is beautiful even she wasn't.

Many netizens expressed their anger and disappointment about the commercial and they claim that it promotes misogynistic views that it is fine to hurt a woman when she is not pretty. Also, it says that it is okay to conduct physical harm to women when they scam people due to their fraudulent looks which lead to false hopes.

At the end of the advertisement, the prettier version of the girl from the commercial is shown with a statement saying "A filter that edits your skin to perfection. Pretty, Baby Update: It even makes your sh*tty skin beautiful."

SNOW's second commercial also gained criticisms from the netizens for the use of vulgar words like "Oh, f**k!" and due to the disrespectful acts of the two men after knowing that the woman is unattractive.

Moreover, SNOW beauty app is slowly being boycotted by South Koreans. Women are not only the main target users of this app, even men are one of their target users. Many Korean men were alarmed and concerned about the issues of physical abuse and misogyny which are promoted by the company. Hence, it made them to halt the use of SNOW application.
