YG Entertainment To Host ‘Walking Festival’ With UNICEF Korea

YG Entertainment will host a "Walking Festival" together with UNICEF Korea to help malnourished children around the world as part of their 20th anniversary celebration.

YG Entertainment is one of the leading star agencies in South Korea founded in 1996. "YG" is an abbreviation that stands for Yang‑gun, which is a nickname for the founder and executive director of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun-suk.

YG operates as a talent agency, record label, music production company, event management, music publishing house, and concert production company.  It is one of the three most popular record labels in the K-pop industry together with S.M. Entertainment and JYP Entertainment.

With an event slogan of "In hope of children and teenagers to grow up healthy," the "YG X UNICEF Walking Festival" will be held at the World Cup Park in western Seoul at 4 p.m. on Oct. 2.

The event also will include a 4 kilometer walk around Pyeonghwa Square and Sky Park within the World Cup Park. Also, there will be a concert of the company-managed artists after the walking event. Some of the popular YG artists are 1TYM, Psy, BIGBANG and 2NE1. The event is co-organized by the Muju YG Foundation.

The walking festival is expected to gather around 5,000 participants with an entrance fee of 20,000 won (US$18) for each person.

Moreover, all the profits from the event will be donated to UNICEF Korea. The money will be used for the food and treatments of malnourished children around the world.

UNICEF Korea helps to enhance self-sustaining national capacities for survival, protection, development, and participation of all children in the country. Since 1985, UNICEF has been working with DPR Korea for the development of projects in nutrition, health, hygiene, and education for children and women.

Furthermore, the ticket sales will start at 11 a.m. on Monday at the festival's official website (www.YGXUNICEF.com).
