Korean Film ‘Operation Chromite’ Opens in US Military Bases Around The World

The South Korean film entitled "Operation Chromite" will be screened in U.S. military bases around the world.

According to the CJ Entertainment America, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) which is the retailer on U.S. Army and Air Force installations around the world, has decided to open the Korean film "Operation Chromite" in 71 cinemas on Sept. 16.

"Operation Chromite" is a 2016 South Korean film that portrays the 1950-1953 Korean war and based on the real-life events of the Battle of Incheon. It is directed by John H. Lee and it was released on July 27, 2016 in South Korea.

The number reached into 33 in the United States and 38 out of the country in Japan, the Netherlands, Britain, and Germany. Meanwhile, the movie undergo a special preview at 11 army bases in the United States last month and received positive reviews a week earlier before its release in North America on August 12.

Currently, the historical action film is being screened at 13 cities in the region. So far, the film has earned an estimated number of US$1 million. The film's ranking is at 19th place in the local box office on its fourth week of screening.

The movie "Operation Chromite" has attracted an audience of more than 7 million since July 27 in South Korea. The film starring Lee Jung-jae, Lee Bum-soo and Hollywood star Liam Neeson tells the story of the real-life experiences of South Korean soldiers who carried out a covert operation. American General Douglas MacArthur (Liam Neeson) sends eight members of the Korean Liaison Office which is led by a South Korean Navy Lieutenant (Lee Jung-Jae) on a secret mission to carry out Operation "X-ray". This covert operation must be successful so that MacArthur can perform the daring Incheon Landing Operation.

Furthermore, the film is a fictionalized version of the historical CIA/military intelligence operation "Trudy Jackson" which is part of the so-called Operation Chromite.
