Here Are All The Major Batman Villains Coming To ‘Gotham’ Season 3 ‘Mad City’
It looks like troubles of the pre-Batman era of the titular city of "Gotham" are set for no end, with a host of both new and returning villains alike coming to stir trouble for Jim Gordon's beloved city when the show returns in its new "Mad City" form.
The official "Gotham" YouTube channel recently released a trailer for the show's return for its third season. Providing a brief taste of what fans and viewers can expect, the trailer is titled "Nothing Else Matters," and its content truly does show that nothing else will matter in the titular cesspool city until it can fix all of its problems.
One of the most interesting sneak peeks the trailer provided was the appearance of who might very well be none other than Killer Croc. Following the release of the "Suicide Squad" film, the producers of "Gotham" previously announced that proto versions of some of the film's characters would be introduced in the upcoming season. Namely, proto versions of Killer Croc and Harley Quinn, although Killer Croc was the only one confirmed to be showing up in this third season while Harley is set to appear just somewhere down the show's run.
It is unclear just how "proto" these versions will be, considering the show has done both ways of portraying younger versions of the iconic characters doing what they do best and indicating that the elements that make those characters iconic have existed in others before they came to be.
Another new character shown in the trailer was the currently unnamed white-haired character of "Jessica Jones" star Kieran Mulcare. Coming Soon previously reported that the actor had joined the show, with a set photo showing him sporting the white hair and decked out in an all-white coat-and-tie ensemble. Scarce information exists about the specifics of Mulcare's character, though some believe he might be portraying Solomon Grundy. If true, then "Gotham" has certainly gone a long way to deviate this version from the original in the comics who originates way back from the 19th century.
The show's new tagline will also be "Mad City," as the trailer reaffirms, follows in the similar vein of the "Rise of the Villains" and "Wrath of the Villains" subtitles that were given to each halves of the previous season. More than that, the "Mad City" might also refer to the introduction of Jervis Tetch. Also known as the Mad Hatter, Benedict Samuel will play the character as part of the main cast of the show for the season. This version of the Mad Hatter's motivation will apparently be to look for his sister Alive, who will be played by Naian Gonzales Norvind according to Variety.
The above will all join returning villains Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney and Robin Lord Taylor's Oswald "Penguin" Cobblepot in causing big trouble for little "Gotham." Speaking of those two, the trailer indicates that they have switched places this time around; with Penguin becoming pretty much the sole organized crime boss in the city and holds power to the point that he can freely hold press conferences, while Fish will be the one amassing power behind the scenes this time around to get back to the top and possibly enact her long awaited vengeance.
"Gotham" season 3 returns on Sept. 19 on FOX.
