Asian World Cup: South Korean Right Back, Oh Jae-suk, Ready To Play on Left Side
South Korean right back Oh Jae-suk is ready to play on the left side when he makes his first international debut in the final Asian World Cup qualifying round against China.
The 26-year-old previously received a call-up from head coach Uli Stielike in March, but was later dropped due to a thigh injury. Oh is one of the 20 players called up for South Korea's World Cup qualifier round against China on Thursday and Syria five days later.
Oh Jae-suk is a South Korean football player who currently plays as defender for Gamba Osaka in the Junior League Division 1. He was born in January 4, 1990 and lives in Uijeongbu, South Korea.
"I'm going put aside my personal feelings, and will make an all-out effort for my team's victory. I know we are in an unusual situation, but I will do my best to show that I can perform like those who play in Europe," Oh said.
Oh said that South Korea's full back situation isn't ideal particularly on the left side but he is ready to defend the flanks. Both Park Joo-ho and Kim Jin-su, two left backs who had been getting regular call-ups from Stielike, weren't selected this time after they struggled to get into action for their Bundesliga clubs.
The former Gangwon FC player, who is also a part of the 2012 Olympic bronze-medal team, said that he is also confident of beating Chinese players because he had faced them at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League.
"Good full backs show good defense. I want to help my team get a clean sheet for the match," Oh added.
