‘Doctor Strange’ To Introduce Dormammu To The MCU? Dan Harmon Reveals Potential Major Spoiler
Dan Harmon may have accidentally revealed a major spoiler for the antagonists of the upcoming "Doctor Strange;" specifically that the film might actually have two of them or that a major villain from the comic books will show up at the end.
Harmon, famed for his surreal comedic works like in the live action sector and in animation like with "Community" and "Rick and Morty," was brought on to the production of Marvel's "Doctor Strange" at the last minute after the film had completed production. Reportedly, Harmon wrote some material to be used for additional scenes.
The specific content of those scenes might have been revealed in a recent episode of his podcast "Harmontown," where he talks about his projects with the latest episode touching on the possible full completion of the slogan "6 seasons and a movie" for "Community."
During the podcast, Harmon brought up some files on his laptop. It was during this time that keen eyed viewers, like Reddit user Bifrost51, saw something peculiar included in Harmon's list of recent files according to Heroic Hollywood.
One of the files shown in the list was one strangely titled "Strange Confronts Dormammu," with the latter name being familiar to Marvel Comics fans as none other than the Lord of Chaos himself. Also known as the Great Enigma, the Master of the Mindless Ones, and the Dread One; Dormammu has long been a recurring foe of the Sorcerer Supreme and one of his strongest foe in addition to being one of the most powerful mystical forces in the Marvel universe.
It has long been known that the film's primary villain is Kaecilius, another master of the mystic arts played by Mads Mikkelsen against whom will stand Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange. The only solid existence Dormammu has had in the film's production was in one of its first drafts where he would have indeed been the main antagonist; and with no prior indications with regards to this film's story, Harmon may have accidentally revealed something major.
Though some say that Harmon's "accident" may have simply been a calculated misdirection, putting together all the details of the writer's involvement in the film paints an interesting picture. Considering that Harmon was brought on board to write additional scenes after production wrapped up, he could have simply written for one of the Marvel Cinematics Universe' traditional mid or post-credits scenes.
Simply put, "Strange Confronts Dormammu" could turn up in the film as Doctor Strange discovering that Dormammu was behind the magical mishaps happening before and the post credits scene could show them crossing paths. This will then introduce the villain as possibly one of the major antagonistic forces of the franchise' myth arc, similar to how Thanos was periodically shown in the credits scenes of previous movies.
Dormammu and Thanos could then be revealed to either be working together, or that the former is the progenitor of the next possible myth arc of the franchise after the galactic mayhem Thanos will bring during "Avengers: Infinity War."
