Japan's Prime Minister is Super Mario and the world is delightfully surprised.
As the closing ceremonies of Rio 2016 smoothly moved to a short presentation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the audience was given an epic surprise by no less than Japan's Prime Minister himself.
The usually formal and calm Prime Minister rose out of a giant green pipe with matching video game sound effects dressed up in red and blue as the iconic Nintendo character Super Mario to symbolically take the baton for the next Olympics games.
Delighted the World
Shinzo Abe's unbelievably bold and creative cameo kicked off excitement for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and also signaled to the world that Japan is ready to embrace and share its pop culture to the world as Tokyo plays host to the Games.
Twitter Ablaze
Twitter was ablaze with one user saying: "That was the prime minister of Japan, dressed as Mario, emerging from a pipe. What a world we live in."
Another user's tweet which was shared over 500 times expressed shock and amusement: "The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe just showed up at the Olympics dressed as Mario, popping through a pipe. This is not a drill."
