‘BrainDead’ Episode 10 Spoilers: ‘Rescue Me’ Star Mike Zegen Appears As Laurel’s Old Flame; Romance With Gareth Really Over?
As the hit political satire speculative fiction show from CBS, "BrainDead," enters the third leg of its first season, it seems like the blossoming flower of romance between Laurel and Gareth has been struck down by the space bugs' machinations with the next episode set to present even more complications for the two.
In the most recent episode 9 of "BrainDead," titled "Taking on Water: How Leaks in D.C. are Discovered and Patched," circumstances arose that eventually led to Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) ending her relationship with Gareth Ritter (Aaron Tveit).
As part of Red Wheatus' (Tony Shalhoub) plans to further break down Luke Healy's (Danny Pino) stand on the council presiding over how to proceed with addressing the increasing problems of head explosions. Red, infected as he is by the space bugs, is seeking to promote a war with Syria and insists the exploding heads are due to a bioterror attack by Syrian terrorists in order the further the bugs' plans to keep the country focused on a war outside its borders so it does not notice the pandemic brewing within.
Standing against Red is Luke who is simply trying to discover the truth of the exploding heads, and does not want the nation to wage to an unnecessary war that will likely only leave more people suffering.
To help in his goal of toppling Luke, Red hired a private investigator to dig up dirt on both Luke and Laurel so he might discover something to use against them. The information the investigator compiles then inform Gareth of Laurel's various sexual activities in the past, which he brings up with Laurel only for the whole thing to eventually cause them to split apart.
For the next episode 10, titled "The Path to War Part Two: The Impact of Propaganda on Congressional War Votes," CBS' issued press release indicates that any prospect of Laurel and Gareth getting back together will continue to slip away with the arrival of an old flame from Laurel's past.
The episode description reads that one of Laurel's former boyfriends will show up and Luke will task them to work together in developing a political documentary, apparently to help in his anti-war initiative. The old boyfriend is Ben Valderrama, who will be played by Mike Zegen of "Rescue Me" fame.
The resurgence of an old romance could very well provide another major obstacle to the budding relationship between Laurel and Gareth; the fact that they will be forced to work closely together also sets the perfect stage for any possible renewal of emotions.
With Ben coming along, will Gareth's chances of getting back together with Laurel finally be ending? Catch the answer when "BrainDead" returns Sunday, August 28 on CBS.
