YG Entertainment To Collaborate With SBS For New Variety Show?
YG Entertainment is trying to work in the production world of variety shows for the first time of its 20-year history.
On August 19, YG Entertainment confirmed in a statement that they are collaborating with SBS for a new variety show.
"YG will be partnering with SBS for a new variety production. Audiences can expect to see it soon," a source from variety department said.
This year, YG Entertainment celebrates its 20th anniversary. YG is an abbreviation of "Yang Goon", in reference to the executive director and founder of the company, Yang Hyun-suk. The company is a South Korean record label and talent agency and founded in the year 1996.
Yang Hyun-suk is a South Korean record executive, musician, dancer and record producer. In the 1990s, Yang rose to fame as a member of Seo Taiji and Boys. After the group disbanded, he founded and became chief executive officer of YG Entertainment, one of the biggest record companies in South Korea.
Currently, the company operates a number of subsidiary ventures, including a clothing line, a golf management agency, and a cosmetics brand. It is one of the three most prominent record labels in the K-pop industry, alongside S.M. Entertainment and JYP Entertainment.
Its current lists of artists include the biggest K-pop acts to gain international fame, such as Psy, 2NE1, Big Bang and more recently WINNER, iKON, and BLACKPINK. They also produced popular actors and actresses including Choi Ji-woo, Kang Dong-won, Cha Seung-won, and Lee Jong-suk.
It will be the first time for the company to produce a variety show. Many avid fans and followers of the entertainment company are now anticipating the first variety show that they will produce and collaborate with SBS.
YG Entertainment and SBS are not yet giving statements about the kind of variety show they are going to produce. But they are hoping that the audience will support the new variety show. The two companies are still planning the variety show to meet the expectations of the viewers.
