SK Parliamentary Panel Supports Supreme Court Nominee Kim Jae-hyung
South Korea Parliamentary panel supports Kim Jae-hyung who is the Supreme Court Justice nominee.
On Friday, the national assembly confirmed their support to Kim and announcing that he is a good fit in the position due to his judicial background and experience.
Kim is a professor at Seoul National University School of Law. The Supreme Court Justice Yang Sung-tae recommended him for the position last July 21 to replace Lee In-bok, who will retire next month.
After President Park Geun-hye officially approves of Kim's appointment, a voting at the legislature's session will follow.
"Considering that (Kim) is well versed in legal theories and had also built experience in the judiciary as a judge, we recognize his capability as a Supreme Court justice. He is also seen as having played a role in connecting academia and legal practitioners, and he appears to have balanced views and philosophy given his perception of history," the panel said in a report.
In 1987, 1991 and 1997, Kim received his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees at Seoul National University School of Law. And he was born in North Jeolla Province in 1965.
The panel also mentioned his ethical roles like receiving high salary by providing legal advice to a private law firm while working at a public university.
The committee has high anticipation from Kim as he expressed desires to work in the academic or public sector, instead of becoming a lawyer after retirement. The committee believes that Kim is a person without significant moral flaws.
Kim embraced the National Security Law services for faith-based draft objectors and the elimination of capital punishment during the parliamentary hearings.
Moreover, Kim worked as a judge at district courts in Seoul and has taught law at Seoul National University from 1992-1995.
Due to Kim's perfect background, he got the support of the Parliamentary panel and endorsed him to the different sectors of the South Korean government.
On August 18, Supreme Court justice nominee Kim Jae-hyung takes an oath before his confirmation hearing at the National Assembly in Seoul.
