‘Batman ‘66’ Adam West And Burt Ward Returns In ‘Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders’ Trailer
A trailer has been released for the upcoming animated "Batman" feature film "Batman: Return of The Caped Crusaders," a project made to commemorate the anniversary of the 1966 "Batman" television series and starring the voices of Adam West and Burt Ward.
The film was originally announced last year, planned as an animated feature follow up to the live action "Batman" series which ran for 3 seasons from 1966 to 1968. To those who may be unfamiliar with the series, it starred Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as his faithful sidekick boy wonder Robin and is now remembered as a classic for its hilariously campy elements as well as the star's performances.
A trailer for the movie has now been released, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, featuring animated versions West's and Ward's Batman and Robin revealing some of the movie's storyline and other elements. The film will be titled "Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders."
The trailer starts off with Batman and Robin tied up as the result of the dastardly deeds of a currently unrevealed foe. About to become TV dinner, as in they are literally tied on a gigantic tray of food on a conveyor belt headed for a massive oven, Batman manages to formulate their escape by dipping his bindings in what seemed like boiling hot custard. At the same time, he also officially announced "Batman: Return of The Caped Crusaders."
The film will apparently feature the biggest of the Dynamic Duo's archenemies in the series: Joker, Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman. As for how the conflict will go, "Batman: Return of The Caped Crusader" will have Batman and Robin fighting against their enemies on "Earth... and in space."
Aside from Adam West and Burt Ward, Julie Newmar will also be returning to voice Catwoman after playing the character in the first two "Batman" seasons. For the other characters; Joker actor Cesar Romero passed away in 1994, Penguin actor Burgess Meredith in 1997, and original Riddler actor Frank Gorshin in 2005. There is no information if Gorshin's replacement for season 3 of "Batman," John Astin, is involved with the project.
Adam West's other work in the animated industry is his recurring appearances in FOX' "Family Guy" series, where he voices a fictional version of himself as the mayor of the show's setting in Quahog, Rhode Island.
"Batman: The Return of the Caped Crusaders" is slated to release in October 11 as the first of a pair of planned films.
