‘Dark Souls 3’ DLC Teased By From Software, Announcement Coming Next Week
From Software has teased a major update to its latest entry in the universally acclaimed, notoriously difficult, action role playing "Dark Souls" video game series, with the hint stating that a "major announcement" for "Dark Souls III" is coming next week.
The team behind "Dark Souls III" took to Twitter to hype up fans of the series by dropping a teaser of things to come for the kingdom of Lothric, with the teaser indicating that the real announcement will be coming next week Wednesday, Aug. 24.
The Twitter post included an image with the caption "Huge news on the way, folks. 'What is it?' You ask? Well, you're going to have to wait to find out." The image itself showed the game's mascot character Red Knight, with the game's title plastered on the upper right corner. Beneath that were the words "Ashen Ones...," referring to the in-game term for the players, followed by the message that "a major announcement is forthcoming on August 24."
Though the teaser did not state specifically what the announcement might be about, some publications have taken to infer that the announcement next week will be about the batch of major downloadable content for the game, or at least the first of the pair of planned expansions for it.
It was previously announced that the game will be getting two expansion packs for its post release content cycle, with the first set to arrive during the fall season of this year. With the summer season halfway done, that release window is set to come soon and the announcement is believed to likely contain a proper release date.
As for what the first pack might contain, the season pass for "Dark Souls III" states the standard fare of new bosses to fight, new maps to fight through and explore, and new weapons to fight with. The expansion packs will also likely include additions to the game's storyline, with previous examples for the series sometimes even changing the way players approach the story like instituting massive changes to a specific title's ending.
The third game in the "Dark Souls" series, in addition to being the fifth game overall in From Software's "Soulsborne" series when adding in spiritual siblings "Demon's Souls" and "Bloodborne, "Dark Souls III places players in the shoes of the Ashen One as they explore the kingdom of Lothric and learn more about the cycle of the Light and Dark ages. Like previous entries, the game's claim to fame is its notorious approach to combat that is less forgiving than other examples of the genre.
"Dark Souls III" released in April 12 this year to universal acclaim.
