‘Justice League’ Movie Dark Return Of Superman Teased By Henry Cavill
The return of Superman in the upcoming "Justice League" was teased by the Man of Steel himself, as Henry Cavill shared an image to his fans that hinted at what the direction the storyline for his character's return might take. A spoiler warning to those yet to see "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
The "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" star posted the image on his official Instagram account. The contents of the post showed a close up of a highly decorated piece of material, which some state is actually part of the new suit that Cavill will wear as the Last Son of Krypton in "Justice League."
The specifics of the image show a dark piece of material with very intricate patterns inlaid throughout its surface. The figures in the patter comprise of two main forms, with about half of them looking like a pair of crescent moons stuck together while the lower part of the image has areas with much more intricate designs.
If the image is indeed of Superman's new suit for his return, then fans of the source material can already make a guess at how at least part of "Justice League" might go.
The end of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" featured a climactic battle between the Holy Trinity of the DC Comics' superhero stable and the alien biological weapon of mass destruction Doomsday. Lex Luthor unleashed the creature, born from a mixture of Kryptonian DNA and his own, onto the planet with the intent of destroying the Man of Steel.
Doomsday proved powerful enough to overwhelm Superman, despite Batman's newfound assistance and Wonder Woman's unexpected appearance. Eventually, Superman managed to finish off the creature by stabbing it with the kryptonite spear Batman originally designed to kill him. Unfortunately, Superman's act ended up turning into a heroic sacrifice although the film ended by hinting at his inevitable return.
As for how the storyline of Superman's return might actually go, the image hints that "Justice League" follow the trend that "Dawn of Justice" began and will also incorporate elements of the legendary "Death and Return of Superman" storyline in the comics that sent the early 90s into a frenzy.
Just like with the end of "Dawn of Justice," the comics' story had the Man of Steel thought dead after an encounter with Doomsday. After Superman's "death," four different individuals came out claiming to be the hero with each employing different aspects of Superman's identity.
Eventually, the real Superman did return; although he was sporting a new black suit without a cape. The image Cavill shared suggests that the black suit will be present in "Justice League," though it does not indicate just how much further the film will parallel the original comic storyline.
"Justice League" is slated to premiere in November 17 next year.
