South Korea bagged another gold medal on Thursday courtesy of archer Chang Hye Jin when she emerged victorious in the women's individual archery in the ongoing Rio Olympics.

Chang won over Lisa Unruh of Germany with a set score of 6-2 (27-26, 26-28, 27-26, 28-27).

For each set of the event, archers are given three arrows each. A set win is equivalent to two points and a draw is one point. The first athlete to gain six points wins the match.

The win was Chang's second gold in her Rio Olympics journey. She was part of the women's archery team that also gave South Korea a gold medal during the earlier team events for archery. Ki Bo Bae, another South Korean athlete, took home the bronze medal for the same category.

Yonhap News reported that Chang took the first set of her match against Unruh by hitting three straight 9s. However, Unruh took the second set and also recorded her first 10 of the day. Chang struggled to an 8 with her last arrow.

In the third set, both athletes scored 10s. The South Korean athlete then hit a 9 with her second arrow while Unruh scored 7. Chang then went on to win the set by one point, 27-26.

According to the gold medalist, she was also surprised with her win. She said, "I did not come here expecting to win the individual gold. My mindset was to go out there and enjoy the competition as much as I can. And I did just that and I am satisfied with the result."

Chang battled the stormy weather at Sambodromo which even led the archer to shot a 3 in the semifinals against fellow South Korean Ki. She became the country's first double gold medalist.

Meanwhile, the men's individual competition is set for Friday. Both Ku Bon Chan and Lee Seung Hyun, two of the country's male archers participating in the Rio Olympics, have made it to the round of 16.
