Sony 'PlayStation Meeting' Set For September 7; PlayStation 4 Neo Unveiling Rumored
Sony has apparently sent out some invitations to members of the press for an event set for Sept. 7, with rumors swelling that the event will likely function as the platform where the Japanese tech giant will finally unveil the partial successor to its entry into the eight generation of gaming.
Reportedly, Sony sent out invitations to a press event dubbed "PlayStation Meeting" with the company apparently planning to use the event to "share details about the PlayStation business."
Because of the specific words the company used, in conjunction with the recent revelations about Sony's latest home gaming console, some believe that Sony will finally bring the details of the much rumored PlayStation "Neo" out to the public at the event.
The Sept. 7 "PlayStation Meeting" is set for 3 p.m. eastern time at the PlayStation Theater in Times Square, NY. Interstingly, the name event's name of "PlayStation Meeting" is also the same name Sony used for the February 2013 event, held at the same location, where the PlayStation 4 was also unveiled.
The above has only furthered the speculations that the PlayStation "Neo" will indeed be either the focus or a major part of the upcoming "PlayStation Meeting."
To those unaware of what the PlayStation "Neo" is, that is the codenamed given to what is slated to be the next upgrade to Sony's PlayStation console. Other common labels for the mysterious machine are "PlayStation 4K" and "PlayStation 4.5," indicating that the machine will only be an incremental upgrade to the current PlayStation 4 instead of a full blown PlayStation 5.
Though hotly rumored, the Neo was merely just that, a rumor, until President and global Group Chief Executive Officer of Sony Interactive Entertainment Andrew House confirmed the machine's existence in early June before the beginning of this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
According to House, the "PlayStation 4K" appellation was truly spot on as the Neo will indeed be a more powerful version of the current PlayStation 4 capable of outputting visuals at up to 4K resolution. Despite bringing out a more powerful machine, House assured current PlayStation 4 owners that they will continue support for the basic PlayStation 4 model.
The way Sony will do it is that developers will produce games capable of being played in two formats: the standard resolution available in current machines and another, much higher resolution that will utilize the added capacity of the Neo.
In addition to confirming the machine's existence, House said that the device will not be present at E3 2016. Much to the disappointment of PlayStation fans, there truly was no word of the console at the expo. On the bright side however, the upcoming "PlayStation Meeting" on Sept. 7 might indeed bring the Neo forth if the rumors hold true.
