Australian swim couple Emily Seebohm and Mitch Larkin targets gold at Rio Olympics 2016

The climax of four years training will unfold within the space of 10 minutes as Emily Seebohm and Mitch Larkin competes for the finals of 100m backstroke in the Rio Olympics 2016.

Seebohm have to improve her semi- final performance of 59.32 to aim for a medal, with Kathleen Baker (58.84) of the United States currently at lane four and Katinka Hussku of Hungary, the gold medal winner and record-breaker in the 400m individual medley.

Meanwhile, Larkin's time of 52.7 placed him behind Ryan Murphy and David Plummer of United States who clocked 52.49 and 52.50 respectively. "My speed is still coming on. I've been focusing on the fitness side with my 200 (metres). I know it's going to be a close race tomorrow," Larkin said.

Seebohm will line up in the 100m backstroke final, followed in the very next race by Larkin on Monday night in Rio. The timing of the race means Larkin will prepare in the marshalling room while Seebohm competes.

Since the pair became a love match, that has been their strategy since then. The couple maintains a professional relationship in the pool deck and with the Australian team. However, the couple masks their nerves and emotions before the final competition starts.

For both of them, they must produce the swims of their lives to complete their collective fairytale. They are both aiming for gold in the Rio 2016 Olympics.
