Call it the whitest East Coast vs. West Coast battle of all time

Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman announced plans to end their marriage of almost four years over a disagreement over whether to live in New York City or Los Angeles.

"They've had marriage issues for a while," an anonymous source claiming to know the family told People Magazine on Friday.

"There was tension over where to live."

The couple's two children, 3-year-old Olive Barrymore Kopelman and Frankie Barrymore Kopelman, who is one 1, have been living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on the coast their father prefers.

"They've been having some difficulties, but they remain close for the sake of their kids," another anonymous source told the New York Post's Page Six columnist Emily Smith.

Drew and Will have reportedly been separated for some time, but just announced their plans to divorce on Friday.

The 41-year-old actress seemed to allude to struggles she and Kopelman had experienced in the past over a bicoastal lifestyle in a November interview with Us Weekly.

"They've been having some difficulties, but they remain close for the sake of their kids," a third unnamed source told Page Six of the actress and Kopelman, 38, who is the wealthy son of former Chanel CEO Arie Kopelman.

"I think a good place to start is when a significant other points things out that are tough for them and they are things that you're willing to change in your life," Barrymore said.

"If you really said, 'why am I fighting for this?' start with those. My husband used to tell me, 'I hate that we're always racing to the airport. It's like an anxiety attack.' And I thought, 'yeah, why am I fighting for that?' I don't like anxiety, so now I pack the night before."

Ironically, in the same interview, the movie star mom stressed compromising as being the key to a healthy marriage.

"My husband and I compromise on a lot of things like that, it's the little things that you can change that can make the relationship stronger," she said.

"Compromise is about changing yourself for the better, it's an opportunity for you to become a more functional, better person."
