Samsung Galaxy S7 users that are fans of taking photos or video in low lighting, you may want to hold the phone.

On Wednesday, the South Korean tech giant announced that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones will soon be outfitted with a 1.2 megapixel image sensor that "applies its own dual pixel technology," according to the Korea Herald.

What that upgrade means, is each of the 12 million pixels has two photodiodes, which function like a pair of eyes, allowing quicker focus and shutter speeds with less light, bringing clarity and luminosity to images that would have previously been top contenders for deletion.

Additionally, a 65-nanometer sensor and 28-nanometer logic chip will reportedly allow for a thinner design for the phone.

"With 12 million pixels working as a phase detection auto-focus agent, the new image sensor brings professional auto-focusing performance to a mobile device," said Ben Hur, vice president of marketing at System LSI, Samsung's logic chip manufacturing division.

"Consumers will be able to capture their daily events and precious moments instantly on a smartphone as the events unfold, regardless of lighting conditions."

Samsung is one of South Korea's largest and most influential companies. In 2013, the company revenue comprised 17 percent of South Korea's $1.082 billion gross domestic product, according to a Business Week report from that year.
