2016 US Presidential Election: John Oliver Challenging Donald Trump To Sue Him Over ‘Drumpf’ Joke?
Comedian John Oliver has successfully found a dent in Donald Trump's campaign machinery for the 2016 US presidential elections by making fun of the mogul's old family name: Drumpf.
The Washington Post wrote how hilariously Oliver made fun of Trump's family name at his news comedy show "Last Week Tonight," citing how historians know for a fact that the powerful Trump family name was once known by another name.
"Mr. Drumpf, I await your lawsuit in the morning," Oliver was quoted in the post as saying.
The name calling comes in the midst of Trump's alleged excusing of white supremacist leader David Duke, who is associated with the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) in an interview with CNN.
Trump had been asked the question about Duke during one of the rallies of the 2016 US presidential election.
"Drumpf" refers to the old family name that the Trumps used to go by, citing Gwenda Blair, who wrote "The Trumps: Three Generations That Built an Empire."
"The very name Trump is the cornerstone of his brand," Oliver said. "If only there were a way to uncouple that magical word from the man he really is."
Trump has not yet responded to Oliver's remarks, but denied being supportive of Duke and the KKK.
The Inquisitr reported that Trump blamed a faulty earphone which is why his answer may have been out of context.
Mashable, on the other hand, noted the irony of Trump's hatred for immigrants when his old last name did come from a line of migrants making their way to the land of the free.
This far into the 2016 US presidential elections, Trump has been making waves across campaigns, even leading in several Republican states.
Some believe that this is due to his powerful sounding last name.
However, John Oliver quickly debunked this by repeating Trump's old last name and describing it.
"Drumpf is much less magical. It's the sound produced when a morbidly obese pigeon flies into the window of a foreclosed Old Navy," the "Last Week Tonight" host said.
To make matters worse, Wired wrote about a Chrome extension that replaces all mentions of Trump with Drumpf.
