'Cyberpunk 2077' Release Date Confirmed This Year? To Be Made Available In PS4, Xbox One And The PC
Gamers may finally be getting their hands on CD Projekt RED's next title "Cyberpunk 2077" despite reports that its release date was being delayed by "Witcher 3's" expansion pack.
A source close to the Polish game publisher allegedly informed Gamereactor Germany that the "Cyberpunk 2077's" release date will be set in the last quarter of 2016.
Details about the game have been kept under wraps since it was announced in 2013.
Although CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kicinski mentioned last year that the game had become "even more ambitious" than what the game developing company had in mind.
"The project is even more ambitious than we first planned (...) we need to create a game that will be even more successful," Kicinski said on Polish television network TVN24 BiS. "We have a long way ahead of us to reach the biggest commercial successes in the world."
"Cyberpunk 2077's" release date is rumored to be delayed by "The Witcher 3's" final expansion pack "Blood and Wine," which is also expected to launch sometime this year.
According to CD Projekt RED story writer Jakub Szamalek, the team is already closing "The Witcher's" story so they can start working on the futuristic action title.
"With 'Blood and Wine' will try to close 'The Witcher' universe, at least for a time," Szamalek told Eurogamer last month. "It will be the last adventure Geralt as the main character. But beyond that, there is still nothing written in stone. 'Blood and Wine' will be our conclusion of the story of Geralt, then it's time to focus with all the energy of 'Cyberpunk 2077.'"
There has been little progress on "Cyberpunk 2077" since it was unveiled in October 2012.
CD Projekt RED previously mentioned that they weren't planning on discussing their next game until 2017 the earliest, although it is known most of the "Witcher 3" developers have already started work on "Cyberpunk 2077."
Developers have yet to announce an exact release date for "Cyberpunk 2077." Stay tuned for updates as information becomes available.
