Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update: Patience Needed As Revision Taking A While For Other Devices?

A recent post warned users waiting for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update should not keep their hopes up even with Google's release of the latest firmware earlier this week.

"Just because your device is listed here as officially announced to receive Marshmallow (or worse, just rumored to get the update), it doesn't mean that your particular model will receive it in a timely manner, or even at all," Android Authority said.

According to the site, the updates will take a lot of time, which could lead to "delays, slow rollouts, botched releases, and generally a lot of variation based on your specific model, your region, and your carrier."

Meanwhile, units like the LG G4 and HTC One M9 were already receiving the update but Samsung is quite lagging behind despite the mobile phone company's plans last year to release the update early this year, Daily Sun Knoxville said.

"Expected or not, users of the Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge must still feel quite hard done by the company again now that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is starting to reach other brands while they're lagging behind," the site noted.

In the United States, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is already available for Samsung Galaxy S6 units OTA, but these may only be downloaded if the phone is already unlocked, according to nseavoice.com.

Users can tap the upgrade by searching through the Software Update tab at the S6 unit's settings.

According to Android.com, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update comes with features like multitasking improvements, voice interaction, direct share, doze, app standby, USB Type C support, fingerprint sensors, among others.

It also allows for streamlined settings that "let you manage an app's settings all in one place, from battery and memory usage, to notifications and permissions controls."

The launcher app list from Google Now has also been refreshed with features like "search, fast alphabetic scrolling, and predictive App Suggestions."
