'Five Nights At Freddy's' Movie Release Date Set In 2016? Director Says Adaptation Won't Use CGI

There has been a lot of buzz around the live-action movie adaptation of Scott Cawthon's "Five Nights at Freddy's" game. Recent reports claim that an Academy Award nominee will helm the project and a release date for the film have already been announced.

There hasn't been any announcements regarding a release date, although Datereliz alleged that it will drop sometime this year.

The entertainment outlet stated that the rights to the franchise have already been acquired by Warner Bros. and that production for the film has already started back in early 2015, which is produced by Roy Lee, David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith. The publication also mentioned that Cawthon is on board the project to help ensure the live-action movie's authenticity.

"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie," Grahame-Smith said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year.

"The story really lends itself to being a movie, and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to."

In line with the release date news, Gil Kenan, the director for the Academy Award nominated "Monster House," has been tasked by Warner Bros. to oversee the upcoming horror game adaptation.

Design & Trend claimed that production for the movie is in full swing and that Kenan is already teasing some of the movie's characters on his Twitter.

The original "Five Nights at Freddy's" video game centers on a security guard's night shift at Freddy Fazbear's restaurant, where various animatronic mascots are found inside. These animals perform kids songs by day but turn into something sinister as night falls. The game is played by monitoring their movements through CCTV cameras, strategically turning on lights and closing shutter doors and as they approach the security room. However, the doors and lights deplete power and if the electricity runs out and the doors are open, the animatronic mascots kill you off.

Stay tuned for more on the release date of the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie as information becomes available.
