Wolverine's Appearance In 'X-Men: Apocalypse' To Give It A Boost As A Turning Point Film In The Franchise?
There's a lot of pressure on the shoulders of the cast and producers of "X-Men: Apocalypse." Apparently, 20th Century Fox is pegging the upcoming superhero movie as the "standard bearer" of the movies under its franchise. Does the movie need a boost from Wolverine to do the best that it could in the box office?
"Indeed, the film is something of a turning point for the X-Men: movie franchise since it marks the end of the X-Men: First Class Trilogy," Den of Geek wrote.
"X-Men: Apocalypse is the standardbearer for the next generation of mutant-based films since it's sandwiched between two other fresh faces for the series: February's Deadpool and the delayed but still coming Gambit."
The question in fans' minds remain: will Hugh Jackman make an appearance as Wolverine in "X-Men: Apocalypse"?
Three months to its release, Wolverine's appearance in "X-Men: Apocalypse" is still yet to be confirmed and is still considered as a rumor.
However, a report about the timeline of "X-Men: Apocalypse" may support theories that Wolverine will indeed be in the movie.
"[Writer/producer Simon] Kinberg argues that while the timeline has been reset, it's now all moving towards the 'New Future' that Wolverine woke up in at the end of Days of Future Past, in which Scott, Jean, Hank, Rogue, etc. are all alive," Collider wrote in a report.
"All these movies now exist in the same timeline and certainly the intention at the end of Days of Future Past was that final future we saw was the destination for the characters," Kinberg reportedly said, as quoted in the report. "So barring another time travel or something else that would upset the timeline, that would be the fate of those characters."
If Hugh Jackman's rumored appreance as Wolverine in "X-Men: Apocalypse" will indeed push through, the actor would make a record of playing the same character in nine movies with "Wolverine 3" also in the works.
"I don't really count the numbers but I certainly am amazed at 17 years of playing this character, which I love, obviously," Hugh Jackman said, as previously quoted by Yahoo.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" hits theaters in May, while "Wolverine 3" is set to be released in March 2017.
