Daniel Bryan is retiring from the WWE.

According to Forbes, the WWE superstar took to Twitter on Monday to announce that he was finally ending his six-year pro wrestling career.

"Due to medical reasons, effective immediately, I am announcing my retirement," the 34-year-old wrestler (@WWEDanielBryan) tweeted. "Tonight on Raw, I'll have a chance to elaborate."

The former WWE Heavyweight Champion, who had been sidelined since April of last year due to multiple injuries, had been wanting to return to the ring but was supposedly withheld by the league's management from doing so.

Although Daniel Brian had already been cleared by several non-WWE doctors to wrestle, WWE executives reportedly decided to keep him at bay for unverified reasons.

"The WWE had looked to prevent Bryan from getting out of his contract because those within the company didn't want him to end up performing for any of the 'competition' around the globe..." the Forbes article said.

Quoting David Meltzer's post on the Wrestling Classics Forum, Wrestling Inc. wrote, "He (Brian) did give notice and was told he did not have the right to give notice."

And it seems that Daniel Bryan doesn't have the right to give notice on his retirement based on what is supposedly contained in his WWE contract.

Since his injury last year, the contract of the five-foot-ten-inch wrester from Arizona has reportedly been frozen.

Putting the careers of its superstars on hold during an injury is allegedly a strategy by the WWE to "make [up] for lost time."

Unless the Grand Slam Champion decides to take the WWE to court, there is a chance that his contract will be permanently frozen.

According to Yahoo Sports, Daniel Bryan, who once became the face of the WWE, has been battling a series of injuries for the past two years.

The bearded grappler, who popularized the "Yes" chant, underwent neck surgery after defeating Randy Ortonnd Dave Batista during the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30 in 2014.

After emerging victorious at WrestleMania 31, he announced on May 11, 2015 that he would be on leave for a "prolonged period."

The retirement of Daniel Bryan from the WWE has come as a major shock among wrestling fans.
