New Hulk Coke Commercial Fuels Marvel Versus DC Comics Debate; Fans Take Sides!
The new Hulk Coke commercial has fueled the usual debate between fans of both Marvel and DC Comics.
Hollywood Life reported about the soft drink giant's advertisement over the Super Bowl weekend, which featured another Marvel character, Ant-Man, taking a can of Coke away from Dr. Bruce Banner.
"Hey Bruce, you don't mind if I take this last Coke, do you?" he tells the Hulk's normal and calmer alter ego.
Right after Ant-Man runs off with the drink, Dr. Bruce Banner then transforms into the angry, big-fisted green giant. He then gets into an exciting chase with the smallest Marvel hero, who eventually ends up surrendering the can of Coke to him.
However, Hulk struggles to open the can. This is when Ant-Man climbs up to help him open the beverage.
Aside from the Hulk's Coke commercial, Marvel also scored a hit with the weekend audience when they unveiled the trailer for "Captain America: Civil War" during the Super Bowl.
A report from Adweek commended how the comic book franchise was able to sustain the anticipation of fans until Super Bowl weekend, specifically because the Hulk Coke commercial was kept top-secret until its premiere.
The only clue about the campaign was how Coke released six limited-edition soft drink cans that featured Marvel superheroes Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, The Falcon, Hulk and Ant-Man.
Aside from the excitement over the commercial and the limited edition soda cans, fans also took to Youtube to express their glee over Marvel's Super Bowl promos. Some also commented that they try to check for teasers or spoilers that might be hidden in the advertisements.
"Some watch the big game for ads, others watch the ads for clues," one Marvel supporter wrote, adding "#HintHint #CokeMini Rules."
"Am I the only one who noticed Spiderman in that @CocaCola @Marvel Hulk versus Ant-Man ad?" another fan pointed out.
However, some fanatics took the chance to compare the Ant-Man and Hulk Coke commercial with the Super Bowl advertisement of Batman and Superman.
Some pointed out how the commercial of DC Comics' two biggest stars is a far cry from the Marvel characters' ad for the global soft drink giant.
"Meanwhile, Batman versus Superman has...Turkish Airlines? Or some super dumb sh*t," one troll commented, seconded by other similar posts.
