Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and South Korean President Park Guen Hye met at the UN headquarters during the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly to discuss a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations, where the prime minister also called for cooperation from South Korea in terms of power generation, noted Daily Times on Tuesday.

The talk between the two countries is directed towards boosting ties, increasing trade and establishing a meaningful relationship, with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif promising to welcome more investments from South Korea. President Park Guen Hye also commended Pakistan's efforts of establishing peace with Afghanistan.

Fierce Energy noted on Sept. 10 that one of the major priorities of Pakistan is power generation. For years, the country has been dealing with the plight of severe energy shortages, with some rural areas of Pakistan experiencing power for only a few hours per day.

Pakistan is reported to have an installed electricity generation capacity of around 23 gigawatts, giving the country a significantly low national supply of electricity against a high demand.

In addition to Pakistan's efforts to boost power generation, the country also reached out to its time-tested Asian partner, China. According to an article on Thursday published at Pakistan Today, the Chinese government is set to establish a 1-Megawatt Solar Power Generation system in Pakistan as its first major contribution to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The Chinese delegates ensured that their solar power generation system gift to Pakistan will be a state-of-the-art development and will be monitored by the Chinese embassy to guarantee a high quality project.
