Floyd Mayweather Jr. Does Not Miss Boxing But Retirement May Be Temporary?
Even the most hardened critics don't really believe that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is really serious about retirement, as they believe that the boxer will come back for the right price..
Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, said a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao might still happen and the motivation for the undefeated American to come out of retirement would not only be about the money.
"You get really addicted to the sport, and it's very hard to retire," Roach said as reported by The Guardian. "It's very hard to realize that you're all done. I remember when it happened to me. It should have happened a little earlier. It's a very addictive sport."
The question is does Mayweather Jr., who has been retired for four months now, miss the sport?
The undefeated American fighter insisted he is done with boxing and the next years of his life will be spent with his children.
"I don't really miss it," he told Boxing Scene. "I fought for 37 years. ... This time in my children's life is very, very valuable. I have three children that are about to go to college really soon, so that's very important to me now. I missed a lot of valuable time where I could have been spending time with my children because I gave boxing my whole life."
There is a twist, however. When a huge poster of Mayweather was put up at the MGM Grand Arena and the undefeated boxer was asked if he will be stepping into the arena again, he replied, "I can't really say."
"I'm just really happy to be embracing the moment," he explained. "My fans came to all different arenas in the US to see me perform for the last 20 years, to see me do what I do best, fight my heart out and be victorious."
Floyd Mayweather Jr. seems to be set on his retirement. Just last week, he revealed that someone offered him nine figures to fight again but he declined as he insisted that he's done with the sport.
Mayweather also said that he is not interested in a rematch with Pacquiao, whom he defeated in May last year.
