'Cyberpunk 2077' Release Date Delayed Due To 'Witcher 3: Blood And Wine' Expansion
Recent reports claim that a release date has been set for CD Projekt RED's "Cyberpunk 2077."
A source close to the game developing company reportedly told Gamereactor Germany that the title will be out by the end of this year.
Details about the game kept under wraps, although CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kicinski said last year that "Cyberpunk 2077" had become "even more ambitious" than what the Polish developer had in mind.
"The project is even more ambitious than we first planned (...) we need to create a game that will be even more successful," Kicinski said on Polish television network TVN24 BiS. "We have a long way ahead of us to reach the biggest commercial successes in the world."
The upcoming game's release date is obviously being held back by "The Witcher 3's" final expansion pack "Blood and Wine," which is also rumored to release sometime this year.
According to CD Projekt RED story writer Jakub Szamalek, they're already closing "The Witcher's" story so they can start work on the futuristic action RPG.
"With 'Blood and Wine' will try to close 'The Witcher' universe, at least for a time," Szamalek told Eurogamer. "It will be the last adventure Geralt as the main character. But beyond that, there is still nothing written in stone. 'Blood and Wine' will be our conclusion of the story of Geralt, then it's time to focus with all the energy of 'Cyberpunk 2077.'"
"Cyberpunk 2077" has been stuck in development hell since it was announced in October 2012.
The company previously stated that they weren't planning on discussing it until 2017 the earliest, although it has been confirmed that most of the "Witcher 3" developers have already started work on the upcoming game.
Will "Cyberpunk 2077's" release date be revealed this year?
