Brooklyn Beckham's Burberry Campaign 'Sheer Nepotism'; David And Victoria Beckham's Son Under Fire

Earlier this week, Brooklyn Beckham caused a social media frenzy after announcing that he was shooting Burberry's latest campaign.

At the age of 16, David and Victoria's eldest son had landed one of the most coveted jobs in the photographic industry, This is Brit Campaign, a project that was last undertaken by renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino.

Last Saturday, Brooklyn Beckham snapped photos for Burberry's fragrance line in London while the whole shoot was being streamed on the top fashion house's official Instagram and Snapchat accounts, PetaPixel reported.

Of course, the young photographer also reminded his 5.9 million fans on Instagram that they could follow the shoot across several social media platforms.

However, many weren't too happy about Brooklyn landing the coveted project, with some taking to Twitter calling it "nepotism."

Renowned fashion photographer Chris Floyd also weighed in on Burberry's decision and said it was a "devaluation of photography" but a "clever" marketing strategy.

"Part of me takes my hat off to Burberry and says 'that's clever', but the photographer side of me says 'for god's sake'," Floyd said in an interview with The Guardian. "Brooklyn Beckham's got, however, many million Instagram followers, that's what's attracted Burberry. The people his age are Burberry's target market or the future target market."

However, Burberry chief executive and creative director Christopher Bailey defended the young photographer.

"Brooklyn has a really great eye for image and Instagram works brilliantly for him as a platform to showcase his work," he explained. "His style and attitude were exactly what we wanted to capture in the spirit of this new Brit fragrance campaign and I am loving the shots of today's live shoot which looks incredible."
