‘Star Wars Battlefront’ DLC Update: EA Confirms No 'The Force Awakens' Content On Next Expansion
In a recent casting call, EA finally addressed fans' request for the inclusion of "The Force Awakens" on upcoming "Star Wars Battlefront" DLC. Unfortunately, the company made it clear that future expansion packs will not include the film's content.
The game developer already detailed the upcoming four DLCs which will be released throughout the year. However, fans should not expect a clone wars type of gameplay.
According to Tech Times, due to the series' new canon strict policies, the game dev limited its usage of "Star Wars" content on the game as explained by EA's CFO, Blake Jorgensen.
"On Star Wars, the one thing that we are adhering to, and I think this is part of our arrangement with Lucas and Disney, is you can't make a game in Star Wars that violates the canon of Star Wars mainly you can't take something from the future and bring it back into the past unless it's a reference," Jorgensen said according to Express UK.
"Not knowing yet exactly what the storyline in Rogue One is going to be, I can't comment on how that could come in to the extent that it's in the future around our current Battlefront game is also a paced based on the historical Star Wars canon, which is 30 years before the most recent movie than will limit our ability to bring some new content into that."
He further explained that the team behind "Star Wars Battlefront" is trying its best to keep all expansions, including dlc, related to the game as new characters and vehicles will be introduced in the near future. But he reiterated that this will be carefully done without violating the strict canon policies.
Despite "Star Wars The Force Awakens" content not being included in the upcoming DLC of "Battlefront," fans may still look forward for a LEGO game inspired by series' seventh episode.
Engadget reported that the new "Star Wars" game has been officially announced for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS and PC.
