Phase One's 100MP XF Medium Format Camera Priced At Almost $49,000?

Shooting medium format photos above 60-megapixels usually involves taking multiple exposures and then combining them into a single composite still. 

However, this isn't the case with Phase One's new XF 100MP medium format camera. As the name suggests, the Danish manufacturer's latest offer carries a full-fledged 100-megapixel CMOS sensor that is capable of capturing a huge amount of detail in a single exposure.

According to Engadget, the XF 100MP's CMOS sensor produces images with a 16-bit color spectrum, which the Phase One claims will create photos with "a natural texture and tonal feel." 

It also features 15 stops of dynamic range, which makes it capable of capturing more details in highlights and shadows.

 It also produces "clean" shots from ISO 50 to ISO 12,000 and is capable of taking long exposures for up to 60 minutes in full 100-megapixel resolution.

Some of Phase One's proprietary features also appear in the new medium format camera. This includes the Honeybee autofocus system, accurate viewfinders for both the prism and waist-level viewfinder and vibration reduction for sharper images. 

It also supports Wi-Fi and has an HDMI-out for live viewing. The touchscreen monitor screens at 30fps, thereby eliminating lag in live-view.

Another notable feature is the Electronic First Curtain Shutter, which reduces vibrations during capture at high shutter speeds.

Speaking on the launch the XF 100MP's launch, Henrik Hakonsson, Phase One CEO, proudly discussed the company's latest innovation.

"This is the highest performing system that we have ever created, benefiting from a multitude of Phase One exclusive innovations developed to support our amazing customers in creating the ultimate images," he said.

According to Gadgets NDTV, the Phase One XF 100MP medium format camera is available for purchase with a Schneider Kreuznach 80mm LS lens for $48,990.
