PlayStation 5 Release Date, Price Discussed; To Come In 2 Versions That Won't Use Disk Drive?
While Sony is keeping details of the PlayStation 5 under wraps, video game fans are already speculating about the features of the next-generation console.
So far, there have been no announcements about the PS5's price and release date, although a recent report suggested that the Japanese electronics manufacturer could introduce it in two different models.
According to Value Walk, in order for Sony to keep with competitors like PC's Steam and mobile phone gaming, they could release two separate consoles.
One featuring a 4K Ultra Blu-Ray disk drive, and another dedicated to downloadable games. That way they could cover every possible base of the gaming industry, which is becoming more diverse every year.
However, gaming fans may have to wait a little bit longer for the PlayStation 5's release date to be announced.
Lisa Su, CEO of American semiconductor company AMD, said during the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show that companies like Sony and Microsoft are expected to give their consoles a five or seven-year lifespan before releasing their next-generation platforms.
"The consoles work on a five to seven-year strategy, that's the lifetime for these consoles," Su said in a statement published by TechRadar.
"Without talking about any particular party's console; there will be opportunities to cost-reduce."
She then explained how Sony's five or seven-year determines the price of the new generation consoles.
"Consoles tend to be very sensitive to price point, we see that as the price comes down console [sales] volume goes up, and that will afford an opportunity to do that in this cycle," she further explained of PlayStation 5's possible release date and price.
Meanwhile, Sony has revealed that more than 5.7 PlayStation 4 units have been sold over last year's holiday season, and there's a chance for it to break PS2's record as the best-selling console of all time.
However, sources claim that it could even perform better in 2016 with console exclusives "Street Fighter V," "Horizon: Zero Dawn," "Dreams," "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," "No Man's Sky," "Ratchet and Clank" and "Paragon" all set for release this year.
Stay tuned for more news on the PlayStation 5's release date and price as updates become available.
