Chelsea was recently in the news following the transfer of United States international player and New York Red Bulls' Matt Miazga. The 20-year-old footballer signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the current Premier League champions.

In a statement posted on Chelsea's official website, Miazga said, "I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, a world-famous club with a reputation for major success. I am delighted to be in the Premier League, the best league in the world, and I can't wait to meet my team-mates and get going."

"I am still at the beginning of my career but I believe this is the place to develop and learn from some of the best players in the world."

Some Chelsea news claim that with the transfer, Miazga will reprise his position as center-half for the Blues as this is his role in his former team, the New York Red Bulls. If this is the case, the player's addition to Chelsea's rotation will greatly help the team's defense.

Both Miazga and Chelsea has yet to comment on this news.

During his three seasons with New York, Miazga made 34 league appearances and scored his only goal during a derby match against rival New York City FC in May 2015.

Miazga, who was born in New Jersey, made his debut and sole international appearance in a match against St. Vincent and the Grenadines in a World Cup qualifier fixture in November 2015.

He has been playing for the New York Red Bulls since May 2013 and during his tenure with the club, he was awarded the 2015 United States Soccer Young Male Player of the Year last December.

Maizga's new team, Chelsea, had been quite busy in boosting its roster trough transfers or acquisition of players through loans. The club recently signed Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato on load and will play for the club the rest of the season, according to a news report from BBC.

Chelsea is currently sitting in the 13th place in the Premier League table. The team's upcoming fixture in the Premier League is against Watford, scheduled on Feb. 4.
