The scorching temperature felt for the past days might have led to the death of seven individuals as well as thousands of livestock, but it has led to high sales among local businesses. These include retail stores and market stalls.

Lotte Mart has reported that ice sales have increased by 155.1% since July 26. Other items with more sales include soda (39.8%), bottled water (41.6%), bamboo mats (57.1%) and cooling cushions (64.8%).

If products that help beat the heat have done well on the market, those meant for the rainy season haven't. The sales of raincoats have fallen by 56.4%, umbrellas by 41% and rain boots by 30.5%.

The sales of seasonal fruits are also expected to rise, considering that these taste even better when cold. The best produce in summer includes peaches, tomatoes and watermelon. They are juicy and tasty as well as highly beneficial to the health.

For people interested in comfortable yet stylish clothing, they should check out 'refrigerator clothes' in boutiques and stores. These comprise loose-fitting dresses, skirts and pants with loud or bold patterns. There are also cardigans and shirts, even undergarments. These are usually made from rayon, artificial silk, polyester or any fabric that allows air to circulate properly and doesn't cling to the skin when wet from perspiration. The fact that these clothes are generally loose and cool explains the weird term - 'refrigerator'.

What's even greater about their light material is the relatively affordable price. Most items can be bought below 10,000 won in shopping districts, such as Dongdaemun Market, and traditional markets. These are also available online.

From soda to 'refrigerator' clothes, these make great means to stay cool despite the blistering weather. But for many children, the water fountain at Seoul Plaza is the best solution. There's nothing like a refreshing shower at the city central, and it's free.
