'Fast And Furious 8' News: Universal Confirms Cody Walker Will Not Appear In Upcoming Film
Universal Pictures has confirmed that Paul Walker's brother, Cody, will not make an appearance in "Fast and Furious 8."
For those unaware, franchise star Paul Walker died in 2013 midway through production of "Furious 7," prompting producers to bring in Cody to stand-in for his deceased brother. Not only did his participation ensure that the film would be finished, it also served as a farewell to his brother and his character, Brian O' Conner.
Although Brian O'Conner's story was concluded in the last installment, there were rumors that Cody would return to play his own character in "Fast and Furious 8." However, Universal Pictures has released a statement to put a halt to the rumors.
Polygon reports that a rep from Universal has told them that Cody Walker is not involved in the sequel.
"There's no truth behind it," said their source.
The rumors began when Cody's name was listed on the IMDb page for the upcoming film - which has since been taken down. Additionally, a statement from Ron Meyer, vice chairman of NBC Universal, said in a statement that Paul Walker would be "represented in some form or another" in future installments.
Of course, "Fast and Furious 8" is still anticipated to become a massive box office hit with action-movie heavyweights like Vin Diesel, Jason Statham and Dwayne "The Rock Johnson" leading the charge. Eva Mendes, who appeared in 2003's "2 Fast 2 Furious," is reportedly reprising her role in the sequel.
The eighth installment will be directed by "Straight Outta Compton" helmer F. Gary Gray, who takes over the franchise from "Furious 7" director James Wan. Filming will reportedly take place in Iceland, New York and Cuba, reports Screen Rant.
"Fast and Furious 8" is expected in theaters on Apr. 17, 2017.
