After three years of waiting, the well-loved Nintendo character, Pikachu, will finally be seen in detective ensemble as he solves problems via the game "Sherlock Pikachu," whose release date is expected to be on Feb. 3 on Nintendo 3DS.

The "Japan-only" new game title, as translated by Engadget's Japan-based editor, means "Famous Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Partnership."

The outlet noted that the "Sherlock Pikachu" game "has long been on the cards."

"After a soft reveal three years ago, The Pokémon Company fell silent and the title missed its 2015 estimated release date," the site stated. "We'd almost forgotten about it, until Pikachu donned a deerstalker and saved the day."

In this Pokétective game, the yellow and chubby Pokémon, which was the very first Pokémon character obtained by Ash, will be featured in a "cinematic adventure" as a detective who is "smug" and "wise-cracking."

As "Sherlock Pikachu," he will have a sidekick, a human boy named Tim, who will be with him as he gets into different adventures while decoding mysteries.

Based on the trailer, the game "very, very clearly takes influence from the BBC's 'Sherlock.'"

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the download-only title of "Sherlock Pikachu," whose English version's release date is still unknown (and if it would ever come), will cost ¥1,500 or $12.50, but a special discount of 20 percent can be availed of should it be purchased not later than the end of February.

The arrival of the game, according to The Verge, is part of Pokémon's 20th anniversary celebration.

With the iconic franchise two decades of success, "Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are celebrating in multiple ways, including a Super Bowl commercial, a Nintendo 3DS bundle, an augmented reality mobile game, and an arcade fighting game on Wii U."

The site even continued by disclosing that having Pikachu as the star of a detective is "the most surprising (and amazing) announcement yet."

And what makes it more exciting is the fact that the iconic character will already be talking, apart from just saying "pika," in the upcoming "Sherlock Pikachu" game.
