After the announcement of a reboot to the "Samurai Jack" animated series, the latest speculations suggest that the release date for the series is set for 2016.

Genndy Tartakovsky, the creator of the television series recently revealed that a reboot show is on its way. It is rumored that the release date for the animated show will be announced soon, The Verge reported.

"The cartoon about a time-displaced samurai will return to TV in 2016," Entertainment Weekly reported. "According to Adult Swim, the new show is currently in production at Cartoon Network Studios in Los Angeles, once again under the direction of Tartakovsky."

While no confirmation on the release date of the series has been given, the 46-year-old assured fans that the new "Samurai Jack" reboot episodes will be released within this year.

Also, Genndy commented on the popularity of the animated show teasing the return of the widely-popular series this year.

"In the last five years, I've traveled quite a bit domestically and internationally, and wherever I go, Samurai Jack is number one," Tartakovsky said as reported by Cartoon Brew. "People are so appreciative of and inspired by it; which is really nice. I feel like it is more popular now than it was when it actually aired."

Meanwhile, new speculations have surfaced regarding the plot of the upcoming reboot version of the animated series.

There are rumors that the reboot episodes will focus mainly on the past life of Jack, the lead character of the show, Design & Trend reported.

Moreover, some speculations also suggest the new episodes will feature more information on the main antagonist, Aku.

It is also rumored that many characters from the show's earlier season like Scotsman will make a comeback in the reboot version of "Samurai Jack."

In line with the release date news, some reports claim that the "Samurai Jack" reboot series will be targeted mostly at a more mature age group, rather than just children, Youth Health Magazine reported.
