'Blade Runner 2' News: Harrison Ford Begins Filming In July; Ryan Gosling's Character Revealed?
Rick Deckard returns to the big screen after more than three decades in "Blade Runner 2," with Harrison Ford confirmed to reprise the iconic role.
Joining Ford is Ryan Gosling , although there's little known about what his role will be in the new movie. In fact, there's no information yet on what "Blade Runner 2's" plot will be about. According to Tech Times, the "Driver" actor has been attached to the film as far back as November of last year.
The sci-fi thriller is scheduled to begin principal photography in July under "Sicario" director Denis Villeneuve.
"Denis Villeneuve is directing the film starring Ryan Gosling (The Big Short) and Harrison Ford (Star Wars) who is reprising his role as Rick Deckard," reads Sony's official press release published by Indiewire. "Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Ridley Scott. The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original."
Although Villeneuve is helming the sequel, Scott is still on-board the project as an executive producer and will have the last say in the film's final cut.
"I always have final cut on everything, really. Partly because I'm very user-friendly. I always believe when you're given X amount of money by someone to f-k around with and make a movie, you can't draw lines in the sand," Scott said in an interview with Yahoo! Movies. "If I was an investor and you did that to me, I'd remove your ankles. So don't do the auteur s-t. I respect the guy for giving the money and I respect the studio for saying, 'Yeah, you want to do this, here we go.'"
Harrison Ford first starred as Rick Deckard in 1982's "Blade Runner," which was adapted from Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
Producers have yet to announce a release date for "Blade Runner 2."
