'Wayward Pines' Season 2 Spoilers: Ben Wakes Up To A More Dangerous Town

Producers have renewed Fox's "Wayward Pines" for season 2, and spoilers claim that a new character will find himself in the middle of an impending rebellion.

Season 1's finale saw Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) sacrificing himself to stop the Abbies by detonating bombs. Though he stopped the Abbies, he also knocked his out his son, Ben. At the end of the episode, Ben was seen waking up three years later and discovers that new citizens have arrived in "Wayward Pines." The scene is similar to when Ethan wakes up in the series' first episode, which led to speculations that it's Ben's turn to protect the town's people just like his father did.

Despite spoilers claiming that season 2 will be about Ben, Variety claims that the follow-up will center on a new character who arrives in the mysterious town and "finds himself in the middle of a serious rebellion, as the residents battle over how to preserve the endangered human race."

The renewal of "Wayward Pines" came as a suprise since the show was originally introduced as an "event series" that will only span 10-episodes. However, due to the show's high ratings Fox decided to renew the psychological thriller for another run.

"'Wayward Pines' was a huge hit for us this past summer," said Fox Broadcasting Company president David Madden in an official statement"We were absolutely blown away by the mysterious and surprising world that Night and his team created, and the twisting-and-turning storytelling that drew viewers in from day one. Season Two is going to take the suspense, the vision of the future and the haunting character drama to whole new levels, and we can't wait for our fans to continue that ride next year."

The pysc ranked as the summer's No. 1 scripted broadcast series among adults aging from 18-49, averaging a multi-platform audience of 9.4 million viewers for the season.

"Wayward Pines" is based on a novel series of the same name by Blake Crouch. The show premiered on Fox on May 14, 2015 and concluded on July 23, 2015.

Stay tuned for more "Wayward Pines" season 2 spoilers as updates become available.
