‘Shrek 5’ Movie Release Date Set In 2020? Sequel's Progress Detailed!
Fans across the globe know how fascinating the tale of the titular "Shrek" franchise is and it wouldn't be a surprise if DreamWorks should plan to set a release date to squeeze out a "Shrek 5" movie out of its beloved series.
Despite the announcement of the studio that their 2010 release of "Shrek Forever After" was the last movie of their widely acclaimed animated movie franchise, it was reported that DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg teased the idea that a "Shrek 5" movie is still feasible to happen, Fashion Style reported.
"We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest," the CEO hinted in an interview with Variety. "But I think you can be confident that we'll have another chapter in the 'Shrek' series."
"We're not finished, and more importantly, neither is he."
Moroever, the source noted that regardless if Dreamworks does finally decide to set a release date for an upcoming "Shrek 5," fans can rest assure that they will be seeing the big green giant in spinoff of "Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves."
The news came from popular actor Antonio Banderas who revealed to reporters via an interview he had with Empire Online regarding his upcoming sequel.
"I heard some rumors that Shrek may be coming back," Banderas explained in the interview. "That would be great. Shrek doing a cameo... in my movie? Uh, huh! Yeah, I'd like that."
According to the Movie Pilot, although there seems to be an idea of another film brewing from the franchise, it seems like DreamWorks' policy of releasing two animated movies per year makes the schedule pretty much filled up through 2020.
While fans are hoping for an announcement on an actual release date for the "Shrek 5" movie, they can, for the meantime enjoy a visitor attraction called "Shrek's Far Far Away Adventure," which was reported to be a collaboration between DreamWorks and Merlin Entertainment, Collider reported.
When asked about the plans of building this project along with Merlin Entertainment, Katzenberg said that this attraction will "unlike anything that currently exists and undoubtedly become a new type of destination for families."
