'Top Gear' Hosting Problems Continue After Jeremy Clarkson's Transfer To New Show

Producers of BBC's "Top Gear" are still experiencing problems with new presenter Chris Evans following previous host Jeremy Clarkson's transfer to a new show.

According to The Sun, the BBC Radio 2 DJ suffers from car sickness. The report states that Evans, 49, was in Monterey, California filming for the show with his co-presenter Sabine Schmit behind the wheel.

The German racing driver had to pull over roadside when Evans felt ill after a few laps around the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

"It would be unfair to expect him to be perfect right from the word 'Go,'" an unnamed source told the publication. "But how can someone who gets car sick possibly host 'Top Gear?'"

Surprisingly, former "Top Gear" host James May understands Evans' situation.

"I was surprised they showed lots of Top Gear compilations over Christmas," James told Radio Times. "I thought, 'Oh, so now they're celebrating us'. But I also thought it's harsh on Chris Evans."

"Just as he's trying to launch his version of the programme, the BBC is saying, 'Look how brilliant it was before,'" he explained.

"I'd like to see Chris's Top Gear do well. It's a ballsy call to continue it," he added. "I wouldn't want to be the one presenting it when we'd just finished, but there must be a way of reinventing it. We always said it would survive beyond us."

Unfortunately, Evans' car sickness is the least of the motoring show's problems. According to The Week, BBC boss Kim Shilinglaw, the producer set to give the program an overhaul, has quit the motoring series.

Autoblog claims Shilinglaw played a key role in reintroducing Top Gear following Jeremy Clarkson's transfer to a new show, but she had developed a reputation as a "meddler" which didn't mix too well with Evans' "unpredictable" attitude.

"Top Gear" is scheduled to return to television on May 8. Jeremy Clarkson, meanwhile, is set premiere his new show on Amazon Prime sometime this year.
