Pope Francis US Visit: Speech To Be Delivered In Congress; Immigration Issues To Be Addressed?
Currently on Pope Francis' US visit, the head of Roman Catholic Church is about to make history this Thursday. Today, he will be recorded as the first pontiff to deliver a speech and address a joint meeting of Congress - with the said speech being expected to challenge today's lawmakers on some of the most important issues in American politics.
Following his usual style that have been accepted my many people around the world, the Pope will head off directly to lunch with homeless people currently being aided by Catholic charities instead of ending his much-awaited speech with a luxurious meal with lawmakers on this third day of Pope Francis' US visit. This is also confirmed in his official schedule.
For Pope Francis' US visit, the pontiff is expected by many to focus on themes that he tackled in his speech on the South Lawn of the White House on Wednesday. Pope Francis addressed issues on climate change, immigration, respect in religious liberty and even President Barack Obama's opening to Cuba as CNN reported.
The Pope will address his speech from the House of Representatives, with Republican House Speaker John Boener and Vice President Joe Biden in attendance and will sit beside him. Other attendees include Chief Justice John Roberts and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
On Wednesday, Pope Francis introduced himself at the White House as a son of an immigrant family, symbolizing his deep personal connection to an important issue that is currently dividing America for the 2016 presidential race.
While many of his views will more likely to clash with most of the lawmakers, many people outside the Congress believe that Pope Francis is no stranger even to the most powerful figures in the world. The Pontiff will be in New York late afternoon and end his US visit to Philadelphia on Sunday.
