Despite winning the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Cavaliers' main man Stephen Curry was in hot waters after he uttered a statement that painted a negative impression on the receiving end, which in this case are the Cavs.

Before the game, which marked the return of the reigning NBA champions in Quicken Loans Arena, Stephen Curry was quoted saying, "Obviously, walking in the locker room, it'll be good memories. Hopefully, it still smells a lite bit like champagne."

It can be recalled that the Golden State Warriors won the 2015 NBA Champions in the Cavaliers' turf, which is the Quicken Loans Arena.

The comment infuriated both the Cleveland Cavaliers and a horde of their fans despite Stephen Curry's admission that the statement was taken out of context. Reportedly, the Golden State Warriors player did not mean to insult the Cavs organization nor its fans, according to USA Today.

However, it was too late for apologies as Stephen Curry's statement went viral and was quickly picked up by devoted Cavaliers bloggers.

Before the game started, some analysts were quick to note that the animosity created by the statement of Golden State Warriors' main man was strong enough to help rally the Cavs past the current champions.

But that did not happen.

Stephen Curry went on to score 35 points and grabbed four rebounds in just 28 minutes of game time. The Golden State Warriors defeated the Cavaliers, 132-98.

On the Warriors' side, Andre Iguodala scored 20 points off the bench while Draymond Green posted a double-double figure with 16 points and 10 assists. Harrison Barnes and Klay Thompson added 12 and 15 points, respectively.

LeBron James was the top scorer for the Cleveland Cavaliers with 16 points and five rebounds to his stats. It was also a rough night for J.R. Smith who was ejected out of the game when was called for a Flagrant 2 foul.

According to NBA.com, the decision was called when Smith charged with a lowered shoulder towards Barnes, putting the Warriors forward flat on his back.

Contributing to the Cavaliers offense are Smith with 14 points, Matthew Dellavedova with 11 points and Iman Shumpert with 10 points.
